This picture does not do the view justice really. It was just a breathtaking experience being up there. I have not seen anything like that in any East coast hikes. And I only had to hike about 4 miles to get to this point. I will surely be doing more hiking and hopefully I can eventually get a better camera than my phone!

You think that’s cool, you should check out Yosemite.

Definitely on the list. But this one is certainly more accessible on a weekday morning. Last time trying to get to Yosemite was car trouble so my girlfriend kinda thinks going there is cursed or something haha

It’s worth the effort. I spend a bunch of time up in Alaska, so I’m pretty spoiled, but Yosemite still blows me away every time I go.

I was reading the title as I glanced at your username, so I read:

Hiking in California is awesome- NOT

Welcome to the west. Your experiences will only intensify as you travel about. Those pics are not too bad for a phone.

That feeling of being up on top of EVERYTHING is pretty awesome.

Here’s a shot from Mt Fremont on the NE flank of Rainier up in WA from last weekend - 7200 vert. The area was closed less than 24 hours later due to the first snow of the season.

Beautiful!

I love hikes, but need to get back into shape. The last hike I did was over the summer, and it nearly killed me. I honestly thought I would need to be airlifted out of the valley due to my asthma flaring (which is rare) and not responding to my inhaler.

With that said, “Devils punch bowl (San Diego)” is not worth the 6 miles up and down the mountain

Glad to see you made it up that way, truly one of my favorite hikes in SoCal!

Did you stop at Neptune’s Net?

Haha devils punch bowl just sounds intense. I enjoy that name! Hiking is so rewarding, even on short hikes. I enjoy it more when it is a little more level or gradual slopes, but a challenge is always good too. I definitely need to start earlier in the day though because having it be 98 degrees at the end is no fun lol.

Thanks, yeah like I said the environment itself is so good that even my phone can make it look good. Helps to use excessive HDR on everything. Not bad for a $75 (no contract) phone. I hope to check out more of Northern California since I think I will enjoy that even more.

Neptune’s Net is down in Malibu right? I had come from the other direction since I came in on Mulholland and I had brought lunch anyways. My girlfriend and I had eaten the day before at an Italian place in Malibu, blanking on the name right now.

I can see there are definitely a lot of good hikes in the area. But yeah this one was much better than the one I had done in Griffith Park. Got any other favorites?

Yeah since I had a Honda civic when I made my name, Wrong Wheel Drive was very fitting. But then I bought a Miata so I had to change it. But I also didn’t want to completely change my name so I just added NOT to it haha.

Nice, getting in quite nearly the last hike of the season! Although there are those who hike through the snow anyways.
